- A pastor’s object lesson to his congregation left a pizza delivery woman overwhelmed and in tears when the congregation showed her the type of honour she wasn’t expecting
- Wilfredo De Jesús, the pastor of New Life Covenant Church ordered pizzas from a popular delivery chain of fast food restaurants during a service
- The showing of honour to the delivery lady proved to be contagious as more and more congregation members added to the gift once the generosity began
Delivering pizzas might not be the most glamorous job in the world, but for many people, like Monique Hall, a Domino’s employee, it pays the bills and keeps the wolf from the door.
Briefly.co.za learned that a pastor, trying to show his congregation the importance of honouring everyday people decided to order some pizzas for delivery to the church during the service to give his flock the opportunity to be blessed by blessing the pizzas and the woman who delivered them.
“We realized that this element of ‘honour’ had been missing in our culture,”said De Jesús explaining the message he was trying to convey to his congregants.
When Hall arrived with the pizza, she was brought into a room filled with New Life’s members.
“I was nervous. I didn’t understand why so many people stood up just for a pizza delivery person,” she said. Then De Jesús told her that the whole church wanted to take the opportunity to honour her, before pulling out a $100 note which he put into her hands.
After giving her the huge tip, worth almost R1250, he turned to the church and asked for 10 people also willing to bless her to stand up.
As those who stood up began walking on the stage and adding to the growing pile of money in Hall’s hands, she became overwhelmed and was eventually brought to tears.
While the pastor only asked for 10 people to bless Hall, many more joined in.
“Honouring is contagious,” De Jesús explained.
