Sowetan Live reported Safa are in a race against time to find a new coach after Molefi Ntseki was given the boot. An experienced coach would be needed as the 2022 Qatar Fifa World Cup qualifiers start in June, a replacement would be expected to take on the role without delay.

Mosimane had a brief stint at the helm of the national team in 2010 after the Fifa Soccer World Cup in South Africa. However, he was shortly replaced after Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The management team had misinterpreted the rules for the competition. Mosimane then went on to coach Mamelodi Sundowns where he enjoyed enormous success.
