Like most of us, some SA celebs were once also struggling to make ends meet.
Even though it might be hard to believe, especially if you take a look at their glamorous lives now, some of South Africa's most well-known personalities did have to start at the bottom.
Briefly.co.za takes a look at what Lorna Maseko, J'Something and Boity did before they became famous in SA.
1. Lorna Maseko
According to News365.co.za, before getting into the entertainment industry, Lorna Maseko gave Pilates lessons on the side line.
However, the celebrity cook quickly realised her heart was not in her lessons when she continuously arrived late for her first client's 5 am sessions.
The Mi Casa musician said when he was younger he would rent out his Game Boy on weekends to make extra cash.
“My dad bought me a Game Boy. It was a green Game Boy and the kids always wanted it on the weekends, so I’d rent it out.”, he said about his side hustle.
According to J'Something, with the money he made renting out his Game Boy he would buy more games, which he would then also rent out.
3. Boitumelo Thulo, aka "Boity"
Boity wanted to make quick cash, so she opted for gigs as a promo girl.
According to the television star, she made R500 a week by being a promo girl, adding it was a lot for her at the time.
Boity said she used the money she made there to cover her travel costs to auditions, with the hope to make her dreams come true. Needless to say, it paid off.
