The newly-elected African National Congress Youth League leader Nonceba Mhlauli has spoken strongly against party leaders who use the youth league to "fight their factional battles". Mhlauli stated that the ANCYL had been used as a "pocket knife" by leaders.

She described the youth league as being used as a pocket knife that can be pulled out at anytime when there is infighting. Mhlauli says that the issues within the ANC and the ANCYL date back to 2008.

A report by TimesLIVE revealed Mhlauli's perception of being labelled a supporter of President Cyril Ramaphosa. Mhlauli stated that she is a member of the ANCYL and the party as a whole. She added that she would work hard to change the perceptions people have of her.

Mhlauli spoke strongly about the change that needs to be made in the youth wing as she said that being divided does not "serve the interests" of young people within the country.

Mhlauli stated that the "mother body" was "deeply divided" and that the new task team that has been created will ensure that no one can influence the affairs of the youth in the organisation. She added that she wants the voices of the youth to be heard, again, this is according to SABC News.
