A Johannesburg man has shared how the true South African spirit was displayed recently when he realised he had forgotten his wallet at home.
Writing on Facebook, Schalk van der Merwe said he was about to pay for an items at Robot Hardware in Booysens Road when he realised his error.
However, the cashier at the till offered to pay his bill in full — without asking for anything in return.
This Afrikaans speaking lady by the name of Pretty behind the till did not hesitate and took money from her handbag and paid my bill of R 36-00 in full.
She did not even take my details. To top it all an Indian guy behind me was also prepared to pay my bill.
He praised this amazing spirit of South Africans willing to help their fellow countrymen and women. Schalk added:
In times like these it warms my heart that there are still people in this country that care about each other. I think we can build a nation with such people.
Please share in order to get this negative spirit in our country to a positive spirit among our people.
Schalk said he returned the following day and repaid Pretty, whose picture he posted along with his post. He also bought her some chocolates.
Pretty's kind act warmed the hearts of Schalk's followers. See some of their reactions below.
