Gupta Gang and Salim Essa Banned in UK for Their Role in SA Corruption

- The notorious Gupta gang, brothers Salim, Ajay, Atul, Rajesh and their associate, Salim Essa, have been banned from entering the UK

- The Guptas along with their associate will no longer be able to enter the UK or channel money through UK banks either

- The new development forms part of the UK's Global Anti-Corruption Sanction Regime that looks to fight corruption in and around the UK

The Gupta brothers, Salim, Ajay, Atul and Rajesh, have all been banned from travelling to the UK and using UK banks to channel their money.

The brothers, who gained notoriety after their suspicious dealings with former president Jacob Zuma, are five of 22 other individuals that the UK have imposed these sanctions against. Salim Essa, a close associate of the Guptas, has also been placed under the Global Anti-Corruption Sanction Regime that was set up by the UK to help tackle corruption.

In a statement online, a UK official said that the UK will be supporting the important efforts of South African authorities to tackle corruption.

As part of the support, the Guptas and their associate were banned from the UK for "their roles in serious corruption which caused significant damage to the South African economy," the statement reads.

"Estimates suggest over 2% of global GDP is lost to corruption every year. The UK is committed to tackling this problem and targeting those who enable it. Today, UK Foreign Sec @DominicRaab launches our new Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions regime," read a post online.

Norma told the inquiry all that she knew about her husband’s dealings with the Guptas. She made it known that the Guptas influenced the appointments at state-owned enterprises, despite Malusi denying this in his testimony.

Although the Guptas played a part in appointments, Norma claims that Malusi and Ajay did not always agree and had heated discussions often. Norma went on to say that Malusi already hired someone before the appointment process even started, all that it was, was a formality.
