'Generations' Creator Mfundi Vundla Gets Awarded an Honorary Doctorate

- Mfundi Vundla is grateful to have been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Literature from the University of Pretoria

- Even though he now officially carries the title of 'Dr', he doesn't want to be called that because he hasn't actually done any academic work

Mfundi Vundla, who is responsible for the creation of the soapie Generations, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Pretoria (UP). The executive producer was given the literature doctorate for his role in the entertainment industry.

Mfundi Vundla was conferred alongside Jazz legend Abdullah Ibrahim in a virtual graduation ceremony that took place on Monday.

Dr Vundla told the Sowetan that he is happy to be gaining some recognition for the work that he does. He is proud of himself and felt that it was amazing to finally be honoured for his efforts.

"It has been a long time coming. It is wonderful to be recognised for what you have done. I think I deserve it. I have done a lot to transform the industry in this country," he said.

Even though he now has the title of Dr, Mfundi Vundla doesn't want people addressing him that way because he didn't go to school to get this qualification.

"I have a Bachelor of Arts and Master's degrees and that is where it ended. I am being honoured for the contribution and the mark I made in society," said Vundla.

In other entertainment news, Briefly News reported that Zola Nombona is set to star in Generations: The Legacy. Mzansi actress Zola Nombona is taking the role of a ballsy journalist in the soapie.

Zola has previously starred in other productions and is going to be bringing her experience onto the set of the SABC soapie. Zola will be playing the role of Pamela, a journalist who will stop at nothing to get the truth.

Entertainment blogger Phil Mphela announced the news on Twitter and she will be playing the wife of Siyanda, who is played by Kay Sibiya.
