ANC Considering Staff Cuts of Around 50% and Increase in Levies

The African National Congress (ANC) Treasurer-General Paul Mashatile has revealed that the ruling party is considering cutting its staff by 50%. Reports say that this was stated during Sunday's ANC NEC meeting.

According to a well-known publication, a leaked recording of Mashatile revealed that he is now preparing a report that will be tabled to ANC officials on Monday, 10 May. The report will allegedly give details of various recommendations that party officials need to consider.

Some of which include the possibility of increasing membership fees and levies in an attempt to assist the ANC out of its financial issues.

According to the Mail & Guardian, the publication that heard the leaked recording, Mashatile stated that the ruling party was looking at resizing. Mashatile said that officials at the ANC have agreed to cut staff by 50% and that reports will go to the NEC.

The Treasurer-General added that a lot of work is being done at the moment and that a team is working to look at crowd-funding, among other things.

A report by News24 revealed that Comrade Febe Potgieter-Gqubule is at the head of the restructuring and resizing process.

In other political news, Briefly News recently reported that suspended ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule kept his word and attended the virtual NEC meeting held on Saturday.

However, he was uninvited and kicked out when members of the ANC's highest decision-making body demanded that he leave.

Magashule had met with ANC Women's League officials before the NEC meeting. The previous night Bathabile Dlamini had lost control of the meeting when she suggested that the step-aside policy should be reviewed and that the ANC should hold and national general council.
