This week started on a grim note, with murder, rape and kidnapping making national headlines.

Briefly.co.za reported that the death of a student at the hands of a postal worker, in broad daylight, had sent ripples of alarm through the country.

The kidnapping of a 6-year-old girl yesterday further fuelled the flames of rage at the increasing vulnerability of children and women alike.

A petition started on Change.org 19 hours ago is only just under 5 000 signatures short of reaching its 300 000 target. The petition is demanding that the death penalty be reinstated, a desperate solution to what seems to be a worsening situation.
