Mmusi Maimane has been fielding drama over whether or not he owns his luxurious Claremont abode.

IOL reports that the opposition leader had incorrectly listed the R3.8 million property as an asset, but later admitted that it was only rented.

Wessel Jacobs, a Durban businessman and Maimane's landlord, has broken his silence over the matter revealing that one of his companies had bought the house in 2017.

Jacobs commented that he had never lived in the house, but had purchased it as an investment, saying:

“Maimane is renting the property from the company at a market-related monthly rental. He (Maimane) pays the market-related rental as per his agreement with the company."

Jacobs denied making donations towards Maimane's campaigns but admitted to being 'long-standing friends' and a trustee of a family trust.

Democratic Alliance spokesperson Solly Malatsi says that the matter has since been sorted internally, with 'no sense' that any law had been violated.

Briefly.co.za reported that citizens had blasted Maimane for wanting SA to extend a helping hand to Zimbabwe, saying that he should focus on fixing local issues first.
