Stellenbosch University to honour John Kani for his 50-year career

- Local acting legend, John Kani's talents will be acknowledged by the University of Stellenbosch

- The Hollywood star and playwright will be bestowed an honorary doctorate for his contribution to performing arts

- This isn't the first time Kani will be honoured for his achievements

Briefly.co.za learnt that Stellenbosch University announced it will bestow an honorary doctorate on the legendary South African actor, playwright and Hollywood star, John Kani.

This is in acknowledgement of the actor's talents and contribution to performing arts in a 50-year career.

Kani is one of six people who will receive doctorates during the university's December or January graduation ceremonies.

In addition, SABC News reported Kani will also be honoured on 29 October at the Market Theatre in Joburg for his contribution to the arts and entertainment field in Mzansi.

A statue of Kani will also be unveiled.

This isn't the legend's first experience at being honoured. About five months ago, the multi-award-winning actor, director and playwright was honoured and given the special award, the Naledi Theatre World Impact Award.

The actor humbly said his thanks on social media. South Africans are very proud of Kani:
