Meet Eastern Cape's top matric pupil who plans on studying medicine

A young boy from the Eastern Cape has made his family, school and community proud after being named one of the top matric achievers in the country. He attributed his success to hard work and working effectively. The matriculant wishes to pursue medicine so he can break the curse of chronic disease related deaths in his community.

Lomso Dumezweni is one step closer to becoming a doctor after excelling in his matric exams. Speaking to SABC ahead of the national awards ceremony, he said that his success was due to hard work.

The Nyanga High School pupil said he was sleeping at home when his father woke him up to tell him the amazing news. He encouraged the next batch of matrics to take their school work seriously from the very first day of the year.

He plans to study medicine in order to return home to assist his community.

Minister of Basic Education , Angie Motshekga will award the top performers on Tuesday evening.
