Maimane reacts to Nigeria's 1st coronavirus patient: "We must pray"

Nigeria's Health Ministry confirmed the country's first coronavirus case. An Italian citizen who traveled to Lagos has tested positive for the virus, CNN reported.

Mmusi Maimane has taken to Twitter to react to the news. Maimane reacted to the news by calling it the continent's "worst nightmare" and he urged South Africans to pray for the neighbouring country.

The former DA leader wrote:

"Our worst nightmare as a continent. The presence of #coronavirus in sub-Saharan Africa. We must be extra vigilant. We must pray for the continent. Increase our personal hygiene standards. It’s no longer just a problem out there, we have to face it too."

Maimane added in another post that he values prayer as a man of faith and believes some things should be handled "through that path."

He added:

"I believe in both prayer and preparation. Faith without works is dead." earlier reported two South Africans working on a cruise ship in Japan have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The citizens had been working onboard the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship. The health ministry released a statement confirming the infections on Friday:

"The South African government has been made aware by Japanese authorities through the South African embassy in Tokyo that there were 12 South African crew members working on board the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship when it was affected by Covid-19."
