SA reacts to Mboweni saying the economy is strong enough to recover

After news broke that the country is in a recession, Tito Mboweni took to Twitter to share his views. The Minister of Finance said the economy is "strong enough" to recover if everyone works together.
"The SA economy is strong enough to recover. We will work harder together."

South Africans were divided on the matter but many slammed the minister for trying to downplay the seriousness of the situation.
Twitter user, @Zamie8909, commented:
"Yes you are still getting your full salary with benefits so it will be easy for you guys to say... what about us suffering in our daily basis? I'll understand if your salaries will be cut off until you make things right as government."
Elijah Ali Mogakabe, who goes by the Twitter handle @mogakabede, wrote:
"We are being taken for granted here. Today we have been told that we are going backwards economic-wise and now the honourable minister says we don't have to worry ,it's just a glitch."
Another tweep, @TFR_Master, added:
"How is it strong singasebenzi? We are the pillars of economy, y'all have rejected engineers and scientists, instead y'all invest in corruption and old madalas."
Briefly.co.za reported on Tuesday that South Africa has entered a recession after the economy hitting a slump.
The country's economy has shrunk by a huge 1.4% in the fourth quarter of 2019 and suffered a contraction of 0.8% in the third quarter. For the whole of last year, the economy only grew with 0.2% and in 2018, the economy only saw 0.8%'s growth.
In another post, Mboweni shared how he started at the bottom and climbed his way to the top.
He captioned the post:
"See what has happened over the years. The picture on the top left was on my first day at work as governor of the South African Reserve Bank. Bottom right was at the Budget 2020 presentation in Parliament. Ja neh!"
