The self-proclaimed prophet, Shepherd Bushiri is increasingly under more pressure as his extradition is moving forward. He fled South Africa along with his wife, contravening his bail conditions. The Hawks are currently still investigating how Bushiri fled the country.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) previously submitted a request to the Malawi government but they say they have not received any communication from South Africa. The NPA said that they are awaiting developments and the request was sent last week.

Malawi Minister of Information, Gospel Kazako said that the office of attorney-general in the country has not received any formal documentation from South Africa.

The NPA must send the application of the relevant documents to the minister of justice in Malawi according to Kazako.

Kazako detailed the process that needed to be followed for the extradition to take place. He said that first, the minister had to send documents to the South African high commission in Malawi. After that, those documents should be taken to the minister of foreign affairs in Malwai.

"When that happens, the documents are then sent to the ministry of justice and then they will find a way forward," said Kazako.

He said that even though lawyers from the respective countries have been in contact, a formal process still had to take place.
