Donald Trump's Second Impeachment Trial Set to Start on Monday

- The House will send the articles of impeachment to the Senate for consideration where they will decide if he is guilty of leading an insurrection against the US government
- In order for Trump to be found guilty, two-thirds of the senators need to vote, this would require 17 Republican senators to break ranks

Donald Trump's second impeachment trial will start on Monday 25 January 2021. The former president faces an impeachment trial over charges that he incited an insurrection against the United States of America on 6 January 2021.
The House will send the articles of impeachment against Trump to the Senate which would officially start the trial according to the Huffington Post.
The Senate would then determine whether Trump is indeed guilty of the charges of insurrection. In order to secure a conviction, two-thirds of the Senate need to vote in favour of the charges.

This would require at least 17 Republicans breaking ranks and throwing their lot in the Democrats according to NBC News.
When Trump faced his first impeachment trial only one Republican senator voted against him.
Although Trump is no longer in office he can still be charged with insurrection which would prohibit him from running for president again in the future. Some also want a precedent to be set, that no president in the future will lead an insurrection against the United States government.
President Joe Biden has said that those who stormed the Capitol need to be held accountable for their actions.
Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that President Joe Biden is facing articles of impeachment which were filed against him by a Republican congresswoman, Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The lawmaker who represents Northwest Georgia announced the news on Twitter on Thursday, January 21, a day after Biden's inauguration.
She said:
“I’ve just filed articles of impeachment on President Joe Biden, we will see how this goes."
In other news, former United States President Donald Trump has started looking for defence lawyers ahead of his impeachment trial in the Senate.
According to The Telegraph, the 74-year-old Republican is trying to gather a team after he was found guilty of incitement of insurrection following the US Capitol chaos.
