Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina says that the State Capture Inquiry is not above the law and should not be exempt from being questioned:

“People must not confuse respecting the state capture inquiry from it being questioned. It’s not above the law. If there are some serious questionable acts, we will ask. We respect the commission, get that right.”

This comes as the nation reacts to the drama between former president Jacob Zuma and the State Capture Inquiry.

The situation escalated on Monday when Zuma followed through with his threats of ignoring the summons to appear before the Inquiry. Zondo, in response to this move, announced that it would be seeking out jail time for the ex-president should he be found guilty of contempt of court.

Zuma himself responded by claiming that the judiciary had been captured and that no amount of intimidation would compel him to attend the Inquiry. Citizens have reacted to the ordeal with mixed responses with some adamant that not even Zuma is above the law.

Others feel that the outcome is further proof that there is a political witchhunt out to get the ANC politician. Either way, it now remains to be seen who, ultimately, will walk away the victor in this standoff.

Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association spokesperson Carl Niehaus has shrugged off the suggestion that members should be thrown in jail along with Jacob Zuma.

The MKMVA has vowed to protect the ex-president from any attempts to take him into custody. Niehaus condemned those who kept questioning whether or not Zuma would make an appearance at the State Capture Inquiry.
