Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema revealed his party's application to unseal the CR17 bank statements. The date is reportedly set for 16 and 17 March at the Pretoria High Court.

Malema shared a tweet stating that the EFF is the main applicant and that Advocate Ishmael Semenya would be leading the argument for the party. EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu stated in an interview that the EFF would be going to court to clear some aspects:

Previously, Briefly.co.za reported that Floyd Shivambu supported former president Jacob Zuma's calls for the CR17 bank statements to be unsealed. Shivambu recently highlighted portions of Zuma's statement released in response to the State Capture Inquiry announcing that it would be seeking jail time.

The ex-president had claimed that certain judicial figures are protecting President Cyril Ramaphosa. Shivambu also questioned why the Inquiry was pursuing jail time for the ex-president. He wrote:

"How does this work? Didn’t the former President’s Lawyers write this letter to the Commission to say they are going to appeal Zondo’s presiding & refusal to recuse himself? Doesn’t the law permit people to appeal? What’s the imprisonment for? @AdvDali_Mpofu where are we now?"
