'Love Island SA' Teases at New Black Contestants, Mzansi Reacts

Love Island South Africa premiered a few days ago and Mzansi was not impressed. Many social media users felt that the show lacked diversity and had a cast of predominantly white people. A few also felt that there was a lack of other races too.

Now, the show is doing some damage control. Taking to social media, Love Island SA revealed that they will have some new faces joining the cast.

"Look out for these hotties entering the #LoveIslandSA villa soon... Stay tuned, Mondays to Fridays at 21:30 on @MNet," they said.

The photo set that the social media account shared showed that they were going to be bringing in more people who are of a different race to the show.

In other entertainment news, Briefly.co.za reported that DSTv responded to criticism as Mzansi slammed Love Island SA. The popular TV show Love Island South Africa debuted in Mzansi on Sunday night, 28 February.

The show garnered a mixed response from social media users who excitedly tuned into the first episode. Many felt that the Islanders on the show did not sufficiently represent the demographic of the country.

The observation resulted in the term ‘Love Island Orania’ trending as Twitter users blasted the show’s choices. Twitter user Rorypetzer said:

“If someone offered you R10-million to sit through the next episode of Love Island Orania, how would you explain to your family that you didn't take the cash?”
