The Inkatha Freedom Party's (IFP) national executive committee (NEC) has joined calls for former president Jacob Zuma to appear before the Zondo Commission. The party issued a statement on Tuesday, 2 March.

The IFP said that Zuma's decision to defy the Constitutional Court ruling to appear before the Commission was not justified, adding that contempt of court is unlawful and intentional.

The party called on Zuma to appear before the court to avoid setting a precedent that anyone is above the rule of law. The IFP believes that JZ should lead by example as his actions could be emulated.

IOL reported that the IFP wants Msholozi to submit his evidence as the Commission was set up by him on the instruction of the Public Protector to address matters relating to state capture. SowetanLIVE reported that Zuma's appearance is about the country and 'setting the record straight'.

Briefly.co.za recently reported that the Jacob Zuma Foundation released a statement about the Zondo Commission. The former president's daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, shared an image of the statement to Twitter.

The statement accused Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo of 'abusing' his position by instructing his subordinates to 'bend the laws' of the country.

The application by the Commission follows Zuma's refusal to appear before the court resulting in the Commission making an urgent application to the Constitutional Court, according to News24.

Zuma refused to comply with three summonses that were issued by the court for him to appear.
