Lindsay Myeni, the wife of Lindani Myeni a South African rugby player who was shot and killed by Hawaii police officials in April last month has said that she wants South African citizenship for herself and her children.

According to Myeni, she would like SA citizenship because she fears for the lives of her children who could become a part of US statistics on the high rate of police brutality.

Speaking at her husband's memorial service in Durban last week, Myeni said that the two of them had always wanted to stay where the kids could prosper. She voiced her fears about her children being black in US and then said she thinks they would be safer in South Africa.

She then added that her next step was to get help from the local government to secure citizenship here in SA. She also said that so far she has received very little help and support from the US government.

Briefly News also reported that the widow of former Durban rugby player Lindani Myeni, who was shot by police in Honolulu, Hawaii, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit. The father of two died earlier this month after he was gunned down by police who responded to a “burglary in progress” call. During a press conference at the Union Buildings this week, Lindsay Myeni accused police of attacking her husband without identifying themselves as law enforcement.

"They (the police) abused their rights and shot him dead because he had a heavy Zulu/English accent and was a black man." says Lindsay.

The shooting took place after a long day of family excursion along the island paradise. On the night of his passing Lindani went on a drive to clear his mind and, according to his wife, probably stopped at a nearby temple.
