South African truckers turned a last-minute setback into a moment of national pride outside FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. When the planned flyover ahead of the Springboks’ third Test against New Zealand was cancelled, a convoy of trucks rolled past the stadium instead, horns blaring, while fans cheered from outside.
Threads user @sibabalo_gift_dweba captured the scene and shared it with the caption: “America said no flyover, South Africans said, “hold my beer, we are driving over.” The post racked up 3.8K likes, 244 reposts and 608 shares.
Why the flyover was cancelled
The Civil Aviation Authority is still probing the Cape Town flight from 29 August. Flight tracking data showed the jets cleared the stadium roof by under fifteen metres. Airlink said it never wanted to overshadow the rugby a second time. The airline blamed bad weather for pulling out of the Johannesburg flight.

Rather than let the atmosphere deflate, South Africans found their own solution. Truckers in the convoy drove past the stadium in formation, giving fans something to cheer about and keeping the pre-match energy alive.
