The big three soccer clubs in South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, all received home matches in the draw of the Telkom Knockout Cup (TKO) which was held at the SuperSport Studio’s in Randburg on Monday evening.

Kaizer Chiefs were the big winners of the night having drawn Premier Soccer League (PSL) newbies Black Leopards for their opening encounter. Mamelodi Sundowns will face a tricky assignment against Bloemfontein Celtic and Orlando Pirates will play Chippa United.

The Telkom Knockout presents South African clubs with their next opportunity to secure a coveted titled and the accompanying silverware, prize money and bragging rights.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Kaizer Chiefs will be desperate to take top honours in the competition and bring some much-needed silverware back to the Naturena.

The PSL giants have not won any major trophy for more than three years, which is the worst barren spell in the club’s long and prestigious history.

The club’s supporters will be hoping Kaizer Chiefs can capitalise on what looks to be the easiest opening round of the tournament.

Timeslive.co.za reported that Kaizer Chiefs head coach Giovanni Solinas was seen smiling after the draw took place. Solinas has the unenviable task of leading the once mighty Amakhosi back to not only winning matches but winning trophies.

Black Leopards have struggled to establish themselves in the PSL but Kaizer Chiefs have a long history of chocking against smaller teams in crunch matches.

Mamelodi Sundowns will have a tricky assignment when they take on Steve Komphela’s unpredictable but destructive at time Bloemfontein Celtic side. Komphela has led the side well with Bloemfontein being the surprise package of this year’s PSL.

Fans are already looking forward to what could be a pulsating encounter between Orlando Pirates and Chippa United who are coached by former Pirates strategist Eric Tinkler. The Buccaneers have struggled to win at home this season and will be desperate to start changing their home statistics as soon as possible.

Defending champions Bidvest Wits will play against Free State stars at Goble Park which has been an unhappy and unlucky venue for the side.

The TKO will start on the weekend of 20 October 2016. The full list draw looks like this:
