Asian markets fell further Wednesday as hopes for an early interest rate cut by key central banks faded and data confirmed China's economy last year grew at its slowest pace in more than three decades. European markets were also down after hopes for a eurozone cut were dealt a blow by central bankers this week.

A US federal judge on Tuesday ruled against JetBlue's $3.8 billion takeover of low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, saying that the deal would reduce competition. "The elimination of Spirit would harm cost-conscious travelers who rely on Spirit's low fares," the judge added.

The US Federal Reserve is "within striking distance" of reaching its long-term inflation target and could begin cutting interest rates this year, a senior official said Tuesday. "As long as inflation doesn't rebound and stay elevated, I believe the FOMC will be able to lower the target range for the federal funds rate this year," he continued.

A missile hit a Greek-owned cargo ship off Yemen, a maritime risk management company said on Tuesday, following a string of attacks in the Red Sea by the Huthi rebels. On Sunday, US forces shot down a Huthi cruise missile targeting an American destroyer, and on Monday a US-owned cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman was hit by another rebel missile.
