A Johannesburg woman took to Facebook to document what she described as a deeply distressing experience at the Johannesburg hospital on 18 August 2026. She filmed two videos from inside and outside the hospital, alleging that patients were being turned away without beds, that care was chaotic and that she personally had been spoken to in a manner she found completely unacceptable.

In her first video, filmed from what appeared to be a hospital waiting area, she said the situation was "atrocious". She accused staff of showing preferential treatment to certain patients based on their demographic backgrounds.
Outside the hospital, where she had stepped out for a cigarette, describing the ordeal in more detail. She said a couple she had spoken to inside had been waiting for three days without being attended to or given a bed. She also alleged that a Nigerian doctor had told her: "Then go home and die, or you sit here and you wait. And if it takes a week, then so be it."
The lady identified herself as a rape victim who had subsequently developed other health issues. She said the same doctor had refused to release her, leaving her unsure whether to stay or leave. Watch the videos that sparked the debate here:
