Try this: the humble fruit salad gets a snazzy makeover

Summer is fast approaching and that means warm balmy days followed by equally stunning evenings and nights and let’s not forget the December holidays.

Braai fires are lit and homes are filled with the laughter of friends, family and the sounds of delicious meals being scoffed up.

Briefly.co.za has learned from foodiesofsa@instagram of an amazing way to give the humble fruit salad a snazzy makeover which everyone is sure to love.

You will need the following:

4 Sugar Cones

3 Cups double cream yoghurt

1 Slab chocolate of your choice

100g Hazelnuts (or any nuts of your choice)

3 Tablespoons of pure honey

Fresh berries and fruits (we suggest strawberries, blueberries, nectarines, kiwi fruit, gooseberries.)

Method:

Break chocolate slab and melt in a double boiler, while chocolate is melting work out some of your frustration by smashing the nuts in their packet.

Dip the rim of the cone into the melted chocolate and then into the crushed nuts, add a spoonful (or more if you and your guests are chocoholics) into the bottom of the cone.

Place cones in the fridge to set the chocolate. While cones are chilling combine the yoghurt and honey. Place the mixture into the freezer for about an hour.

Pipe the frozen yoghurt into the cones and top with pieces of fruits and berries, again we encourage you to try various combinations and different things. Don’t be scared to experiment in the kitchen.

Drizzle with honey and be prepared to wow your guests with this stunning interpretation of a kitchen classic.
