An artist identified on Twitter as @ceracerni took to the social media platform to share her encounter with an elderly woman and her daughter.
@ceracerni recounted that she was approached by an elderly woman who works for the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and had been observing her paint on the streets for more than a week.
The elderly woman came with her daughter, a creative young girl named Eniola who has a sketchbook in which she drew a cat.
According to @ceracerni, she was moved when the elderly woman said she had brought her daughter to watch her paint on walls as a way of encouraging her.
In her words:
"I asked the young girl her name, age and why she wasn’t in school. I also flipped through her sketch book and the first thing on the page was a drawing of a cat painted purple and I immediately had nostalgia... I remembered drawing a cat in my primary school."
After telling the elderly woman about her art hub, she decided that Eniola would be her first scholarship student. She said:
"We will sponsor her training at the Ceracerni’s ARTHub till she becomes an expert."
In other news, Briefly.co.za reported a local female pilot turned humanitarian is looking to make a big difference in the lives of underprivileged young ladies who have hopes of one day also taking to the sky in their own aircraft.
Lesego Mahlodi is one of the young women who Slinger has taken under her wing. While she is currently hunting for funding to pursue her studies, Slingers is certain that will secure the funding soon.
“We identify the learners who excel in maths and science. It betters their chances of getting into the air force or if they go the private, civil aviation route for bursaries with the South African Civil Aviation’s Authority," said Slingers, according to a Facebook post.
