Latest polls indicate that the much-awaited 2024 United States of America presidential elections could go down to the wire.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have been canvassing different states to drum up support for their White House bids.

At the time of writing, the New York Times indicated that the two candidates were locked in a neck-to-neck race, with key battlegrounds like Pennsylvania still evenly tied.

Top athletes who have endorsed Kamala Harris for US Presidency

It has been a race characterised by issues, huge donor funding and athlete endorsements. Briefly News looks at some of the top athletes who have publicly vouched for a Harris presidency, who, if elected, will become the first female President in the history of the country.

1. LeBron James

We don't need to do a deep dive to tell you about LeBron James - his CV precedes him. The all-time NBA top scorer, via his official X account, said that the 'choice in this election was clear.'

2. Steph Curry - Basketball

Four-time NBA champion Steph Curry and his coach, Steve Kerr, also sent a message of support for Harris when he appeared via video call during the Democratic National Convention in August.

"This is about preserving hope and belief in our country ... The Oval Office suits her well ... it's an honour to support Kamala. Let's all do our part," said Curry quoted by the Guardian.

3. Magic Johnson - Basketball

Former Los Angeles Lakers star turned businessman said,

"I’m so happy to see the next President of the United States, VP Kamala Harris, speaking at my Alma mater, MSU! Go green, go white, and go vote!"

4. Billie Jean King - Tennis

The multiple tennis Grand Slam winner Billie Jean King endorsed Harris during her 60th birthday with a post on her social media accounts.

"Happy birthday to Vice President Kamala Harris! She's 60 years young today, a perfect score in tennis, 6-0. Let's all do our part to ensure she's the next President of the United States!"

5. Megan Rapinoe - Football

The 2019 Ballon d'Or winner has long advocated for change and equality. She made her position in the 2024 election known in an Instagram post.

"Just 15 days left to make our voices heard at the polls! I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I believe in the power of coalition building—it’s how we create lasting change."

Other mentions

Other athletes who have supported the former California Attorney General include San Antonio Spurs' Chris Paul 'CP3', retired football star Ali Krieger and Milwaukee Bucks' coach Doc Rivers.

The two have been neck and neck throughout the campaign, with polls showing a tightly contested race. The backing of prominent sports personalities across the nation energises Trump.
