Sundowns plough through Petro de Luanda in CAF opening match

Mamelodi Sundowns opened up their CAF Champions League with a terrific victory over Petro de Luanda winning by 3 - 0.

The Group C match was played at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday. The Sundowns took the lead in only six minutes of play with a perfect pass to Mauricio Affonso.

Another goal came from a cross from Tebogo Langerman to Motjeka Madisha, this placed Sundowns firmly in the lead.

In the last 14 minutes, Sphelele Mkhulise scored the third goal for Sundowns after receiving a perfect through ball from Gaston Sirino.

Last year, Sundowns lost their first game of the CAF Champions League to Nigeria’s Lobi Stars at an away game. Their performance on Saturday guaranteed that would not be repeated.

Earlier this week, Briefly.co.za reported that Pitso Mosimane laid down a challenge to Amakhosi to try and dethrone the Sundowns.
