The numbers are out and it seems South Africans are loving Skeem Saam. The soapie has beaten Generations: The Legacy to become the second-most-watched show in the country. This is according to the Broadcast Research Council of SA. Over nine million viewers follow the long-running hit soapie.

The number one spot remains with Uzalo. Although still at the top, the show's viewership notably decreased and is sitting at 10,5 million. Generations: The Legacy currently has 8,8 million viewers nationwide.

Skeem Saam's relatable storylines may be the main reason why South Africans are tuning in. The show appeals to a wide audience and can only continue to grow from here. Social media users welcomed these stats and many agreed that Skeem Saam deserved top honours. Twitter user BekithembaZ said:

"#SkeemSaam has been serving fire for years!!"

"Skeem Saam should snatch the 8pm prime time slot from Generations, to be honest Generations is only there based on reputation and not content..."

"Skeem Saam is the best educational soapie in Mzansi, this is the type of content I like to see."
