Rapper Cardi B Reacts to Backlash From Mothers Over WAP Performance

On March 14, 2021, during the Grammy Awards, 28-year-old American rapper, Cardi B alongside Megan Thee Stallion performed the hit track, WAP on stage and it was applauded by many.
The Recording Academy also praised the performance on social media. See some of the congratulatory tweets below:
However, there were some people who did not like the performance and they took to social media to air their grievances. A number of them were mothers who said that it was inappropriate for the performance to air on TV because it wasn’t meant for children.

Cardi B was also criticised by Candace Owens on Tucker Carlson's show. She described WAP as an attack on American values and traditions.
She also accused the 28-year-old rapper and Megan Thee Stallion of “actively trying to make children aspire to things that are grotesque.”
This eventually led to a back and forth between Cardi and Candace on Twitter with the latter threatening to file a lawsuit.
The rapper further defended herself on Instagram after a user asked how Cardi was empowering women since she didn’t allow her daughter listen to her music.
To that, she replied that her daughter didn’t need to hear her music to be empowered and that people needed to stop expecting celebrities to raise their kids.
In her words:
“My daughter doesn't need to listen to music to be empowered neither should your children. The only way to empower your kids is by talking to them, boost their confidence and making sure they get a good education. I never ever said that WAP was made to empower women, I'm just a freaky person and this is not the first s*x song ever made. Stop expecting celebs to raise your kids.”

Recall that the rapper had posted a tweet in January when she made it clear that her music wasn’t for kids and that she made it for adults. She also said parents were responsible for what their children watched.
