South Africa reacts to Stage 6 loadshedding implemented by Eskom
- South Africans had a rude awakening from Eskom rolling out Stage 6 load shedding without warning
- Eskom said units tripped at two of their power stations, forcing SA into darkness
- Mzansi took to social media to express their grievances and made the #Stage 10 trend
JOHANNESBURG - Eskom implemented Stage 6 loadshedding on short notice on Sunday morning. The power utility said generation units tripped at Kusile and Kriel power stations.
Eskom set up a press briefing with Group Chief Executive André de Ruyter at 10 am to explain to the public what they can expect going forward.
According to News 24, Eskom considered putting South Africa on a permanent Stage 2 loadshedding instead of implementing it when the grid is under pressure for maintenance but decided against that option because it wouldn't have made much of a difference.
South Africans took to social media to vent out their frustrations and made the #Stage10 trend.

Loadshedding: Deputy President David Mabuza Says Privatisation of Eskom Is Not an Option
Previously Briefly News reported that privatising the state-owned power utility Eskom is out of the question for Deputy President David Mabuza. That's what Mabuza told the National Council of Provinces on Thursday, 18 August.
Mabuza, who is the chair of the National Energy Crisis Committee set up by the president, said that the committee will focus on five interventions, which include reducing the severity and regularity of loadshedding by stabilising the energy system, EWN reports.
