Many South African pensioners have been leaving money on the table at Game stores without realising it. According to a report by The South African published on 5 August 2026, the retailer quietly offers a 10% discount to any shopper aged 60 or older, available every day of the week at all its stores nationwide.

To claim the saving, pensioners must bring two documents to the till: a Senior Citizens Card and either an Identity Document or a valid passport. No other form of age verification will be accepted. Shoppers who forget either document at home will miss out on the discount entirely, no matter how old they are.

What the discount covers and what it doesn’t

The offer is capped at purchases up to R3,000 and applies strictly to in-store transactions. Shoppers cannot use it for online orders, Uber Eats deliveries, or OneCart purchases.

A number of exclusions also apply. The discount cannot be combined with Price Beat offers or other retailer promotions. It does not cover tobacco products, cellular contracts, financial services products, layby purchases, or items already marked down. Pensioners also cannot use the offer during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales periods.

Game describes the offer as a goodwill gesture that it may amend or withdraw at any time. The discount is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Employees of the retailer, along with their families and business partners, are excluded, as are companies, trusts, and other juristic entities.

Where to get the senior citizens card

One detail that tripped up many readers was the Senior Citizens Card itself. Several people had never heard of it. As one commenter clarified, pensioners can apply for the card directly at a Game store, where it is issued by the retailer.
