KWAZULU-NATAL - Three people have been killed after a light motor vehicle and a tow truck collided were involved in an accident on the N2 between KwaMbonambi and the Eteza Weighbridge in northern KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Sindi Msimang confirmed that two additional people sustained injuries in the crash on Thursday, 13 August 2026.08.13 The accident involved three vehicles in total.
What caused the N2 collision?
According to Msimang, the crash appears to have been triggered by an overtaking manoeuvre that went wrong.

"It is alleged that the light motor vehicle (LMV) was overtaking another car travelling on the northbound side. The LMV then collided with the breakdown motor vehicle, which was travelling on the southbound lane, resulting in the light motor vehicle losing control," she said.
Emergency services remained on scene as one occupant was trapped inside the wreckage.
Motorists urged to drive with caution
Authorities advised motorists travelling on the N2 in the area to anticipate significant delays and exercise caution while emergency personnel remained on site.
Msimang also used the opportunity to call on road users to avoid reckless overtaking, switch on headlights when visibility is compromised, and adhere strictly to the rules of the road.
N2 crash leaves five dead
On 19 January 2025, five people were killed when two vehicles collided with each other on the N2.
A four-month-old infant was among the five fatalities in the crash, which happened between Nananga and Makhanda.
