The footage, originally recorded by the late broadcaster and comedian Babongile Sikhonjwa, captures Chivayo as a passionate Bosso supporter years before his name became synonymous with the club's financial recovery.
In May 2017, The Chronicle described Chivayo as a die-hard Highlanders supporter after he attended the high-stakes Battle of Zimbabwe clash between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium. More than 18,000 supporters filled the ground for the fixture, which was eventually abandoned following crowd trouble.

Chivayo had travelled from Harare specifically for the match and was openly critical of a Dynamos equaliser, calling it a fake goal after assistant referee Thomas Kusosa ruled that Christian Epoupa was onside.

The following month, he offered to personally cover a US$4,000 fine handed to Highlanders in connection with the abandoned game, saying at the time that he had supported the club since his primary school days.
From supporter to major benefactor
His relationship with Bosso grew into something far larger in subsequent years. In June 2025, Chivayo announced a US$1 million sponsorship package for the club, with US$250,000 released immediately to assist with administrative costs, player sign-on fees and squad development. He linked the sponsorship to his love for Highlanders and to his late uncle, former Vice-President John Landa Nkomo.
Highlanders confirmed that Chivayo made a further US$250,000 contribution on 30 September 2026, just hours before he died in a helicopter crash near Marondera. The club stated that his total contributions over the preceding two years had exceeded US$2 million.

Two prominent figures, both gone
The resurfaced clip carries additional weight because of the person behind the camera. Babongile Sikhonjwa was a widely respected Bulawayo broadcaster, MC and comedian who worked with Star FM and was deeply embedded in the city's entertainment scene. He died suddenly in Bulawayo on 21 September 2025 at the age of 49, with tributes pouring in from across the creative and broadcasting community.
The footage now serves as a shared memory for two Bulawayo-linked personalities who are no longer alive. For Highlanders supporters celebrating the club's centenary, it offers a rare glimpse of Chivayo simply as a fan enjoying a goal at Barbourfields.
