A local mother's worst fear nearly became a reality after her two-year-old daughter started choking on a sweet while they were shopping at Clearwater Mall in Roodepoort. According to Danika van der Berg, she was shocked to see her daughter suddenly vomiting and turning blue while trying to dislodge the sweet.
Shocked shoppers rushed over to help the little one and her mother to no avail - she was still not breathing. After four different people attempted CPR, hopeless shoppers decided the best thing they could do was get on their knees and pray for the little one.

“The next moment all those present fell down on their knees and prayed – that’s all we could do. Then I heard someone screaming that she was breathing! I cannot describe the joy and gratitude we all felt because she was breathing,” said Danika in a Roodepoort Record article.
Not long thereafter an ambulance arrived and the little baby received some professional help.
Briefly News also reported that during the Covid-19 lockdown measures in 2020, a kind man helped a boy who had been struggling to walk due to an injury and had just come from being treated.
The boy had hurt his foot and due to the restrictions on movement, public transport vehicles were unavailable. A stranger saw the South African boy’s struggles and offered to carry him one kilometre to his home.
On 17 May, the child finally got a chance to repay the kind stranger, who has been identified as James Hall, on his birthday. According to James, the boy went to wish him a happy birthday bearing avocado gifts.
