- Kaizer Chiefs have lavished praise on their Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi
- Team manager Bobby Motaung lauded the team, but singled out Akpeyi following his player of the month award
- Akpeyi has played a starring role since his transfer from Chippa United
When news broke of Daniel Akpeyi's transfer from Chippa United to Kaizer Chiefs, very few fans would have been jumping for joy.
The Nigerian was known as a brilliant shot-stopper on his day, but had a reputation for having an error in him.
However, many fans were underwhelmed as he was signed as the back-up goalkeeper, with Itumeleng Khune expected to dominate the number one jersey.
With Khune's consistent injury woes, Akpeyi has been asked to step up and his done so in brilliant fashion.
Akepyi has made many vital saves for the Amakhosi, including some phenomenal penalty saves as well.
Chiefs have dominated the PSL log thus far and Akepyi's form has been key to their success.
Via the Kaizer Chiefs website, team manager Bobby Motaung acknowledged the players for their hard work, but singled out Akepyi.
Motaung said, "Daniel Akpeyi came to the party when Itumeleng Khune got injured. I’m glad he’s been recognised with a Player of the Month accolade."
Briefly.co.za also previously reported on coach Ernst Middendorp's preference for Akpeyi based on his stunning form this season.
