A Nigerian Orlando Pirates supporter will watch the Soweto Derby live at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 31 October, after South Africans raised more than R40,000 to make her dream a reality.
Miracle Ebubechi Michael, widely known online as Mimi or Anoda Mirakle, became the focus of a remarkable outpouring of generosity after a crowdfunding campaign was launched to cover her travel costs from Nigeria to Johannesburg. The Soweto Derby sold out within eight hours of tickets going on sale last week.
Rival Fans and Foundations Step In
The campaign drew support well beyond the Orlando Pirates faithful. Supporters of both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly contributed to the fund, reflecting a broader sense of solidarity. The Orlando Pirates Supporters Forum formally backed the initiative, while the Zodwa Khoza Foundation offered to cover accommodation for Mimi and her partner during their time in South Africa.
Her itinerary is set to extend beyond matchday. Organisers have planned a visit to Vilakazi Street in Soweto as well as a formal stop at the Premier Soccer League offices, giving her a broader taste of South African football culture.

Mimi's Bold Derby Promise
Ahead of her arrival, Mimi introduced a wager of her own. In a video that circulated widely on social media, she declared: "If Kaizer Chiefs beat Pirates in the Soweto Derby, I will walk all the way back to Nigeria on foot!"
The comment, made in the spirit of the banter that defines one of African football's most celebrated rivalries, added to the excitement surrounding her visit.
More than R40,000 has been raised, accommodation has been secured, and a Nigerian Pirates supporter is days away from watching a match she has long followed from afar.
