Famous Bollywood actor, Irrfan Khan, who played big roles in Hollywood as well, has died at age 53 after battling colon cancer.

Khan passed away on Wednesday in Mumbai where he was admitted at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

According to Indian Times, the actor had been battling cancer since 2018 and his spokesman had confirmed he was under doctors' observation.

The spokesman issued a statement earlier urging fans to not panic and promising them that they would be kept up to date on his condition.

It is reported that in 2018, Khan said the words "I trust I have surrendered" in a note while opening up about his battle with cancer.

The actor's last movie was Angrezi Medium, which was hit screens days before the Covid-19 lockdown was announced in India.

It also had to stop showing in theatres due to the ban on large gatherings.

Other great movies that Khan was globally known for were Inferno, Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi.

Khan was surrounded by his family and those who cared for him prior to his death and leaves behind a wonderful legacy.

He is survived by his wife Satupa and two sons, Babil and Ayan.
