President Vladimir Putin of Russia has said that he is not ready to recognise Joe Biden as the projected winner of the US presidential election.
The Russian leader who made the disclosure on Sunday, November 22, added that until all legal options are exhausted or one of the presidential candidates concedes he won’t congratulate a winner.
Putin, speaking further during an interview on Russian state TV explained that he will work with whoever becomes the US president.
When asked if his refusal to recognise President Donald Trump or the former vice president would harm US-Russia relations, he replied, noting that the alliance has already been ruined, according to a report by the New York Post.
In another report by Daily Mail, Putin revealed that the reason he is yet to recognise Biden is because the incumbent president and his friend, Trump, has not acknowledged the Democrat candidate's projected victory.
He went on to note that his decision to not congratulate Biden is 'a formality' with no ulterior motives.
Earlier, Briefly.co.za reported that United States President Donald Trump has suffered a major blow in his efforts to overturn the 3 November elections that saw his main challenger and former vice president Joe Biden emerge the projected winner.
Trump, who is yet to concede defeat and has been making unsubstantiated claims of electoral fraud, received a slap in the face after a Pennsylvania federal judge threw out his lawsuit challenging Biden's win.
In a ruling that Aljazeera and other international media outlets termed as "scathing", US District Court Judge Matthew Brann said the US president's legal team had failed to provide solid evidence on their claims of voting fraud.
Brann noted the court was only provided with "strained legal arguments" which could not, at the very least, "justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter" in Pennsylvania.
