Moegamat from the Cape Flats moves through life on four wheels, but that has never stopped him from showing up for others. The Mother City man regularly makes his way to the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa's hospital in Philippi with a cat carrier fastened to the back of his wheelchair. He does this not for himself, but to help elderly and vulnerable neighbours access pet sterilisation and veterinary treatment that they cannot easily reach on their own.

The Animal Welfare Society of SA shared Moegamat's story on Facebook on 9 September 2026, describing how he carries out these quiet acts of service despite his own physical and personal challenges. The post moved thousands of South Africans who called him a hero and urged the public to rally behind him.

The organisation noted that Moegamat acts purely out of compassion, with no expectation of recognition or reward. His routine trips to the animal welfare hospital ensure that pets belonging to elderly and vulnerable residents in his neighbourhood receive care they would otherwise go without.
