A mysterious figure in a Spider-Man suit became the talk of South Africa after a heartwarming video showed him helping young school children cross a shallow river in Obuka, Empangeni, on 12 August 2026.

The clip, shared on Instagram account @senzelwe_mtshali, showed the costumed hero standing waist-deep in the stream, lifting each child and carrying them safely to the other bank. The little ones could be seen running off cheerfully after being set down, their uniforms and shoes completely dry. Nobody got left behind.

The village setting made the moment all the more striking. For many rural children, crossing a river on the way to school is a daily reality, and getting their uniforms soaked can mean sitting through lessons in wet clothes. The Spider-Man figure seemed to understand exactly what that meant, choosing to stand in the cold water himself rather than let the kids suffer for it.
