MacG took to social media recently to apologise for the transphobic comments him and his crew made on last week's episode of Podcast and Chill with MacG.
The YouTuber took to Twitter on Friday, 29 January and posted a statement where he apologised to the LGBTQI+ community, his fans and business partners.
MacG and his crew were dragged on the micro-blogging app throughout last week after they discussed sensitive issues about the LBBTQI+ community on his show. MacG's name trended high on Twitter after they published the episode about the LGBTQI+ members.
"During the show, a few remarks were made by our host, the co-host and the Ghost lady which we acknowlegde were very homophic, transphobic and very distasteful. We would like to unreservedly extend our apology to the LGBTQI+ community, our Chillers, and our clients and business partners," read the statement.
Podcast and Chill with MacG shared that they have been able to learn and educate themselves on social issues and now know where they must draw the line following last week's drama.
Tweeps have shared mixed opinions on MacG's apology. Check out some of their comments below:
"I love that we’ll be educated on the next episode because I for one, still fail to see the wrong in what was said. Onwards and upwards @podcastwithmacg."
"Lol, I reject this apology, you did nothing wrong."
"We learn every day, no one is perfect. You are forgiven Mac. Love and light."
"YouTube holds the highest standards in human and community rights, who is @OldMutualSA to distance themselves from you whereas YouTube has not removed or cancelled your channel! This is censorship. I will continue to enjoy your open mind and outlook on life."
In related news, Briefly.co.za reported that one of the sponsors of Podcast and Chill with MacG decided to terminate their relationship with MacG with immediate effect. Old Mutual took to Twitter on Tuesday, 26 January and shared a statement distancing itself from the podcast's discussion of the LGBTQI+ community. Old Mutual said in a statement:
"We distance ourselves from the harmful commentary against the LGBTQI community and humanity at large."
Old Mutual went on to say that MacG's commentary was both "ignorant and insensitive". Tweeps were divided and engaged in a heated debate over MacG's transphobic comments. One tweep @Sandile_K14 said:
"Instead of trying to cancel MacG, the LGBTQI+ community should be using this as an educational moment to teach people what's offensive and what's not. cause I honestly can't see the offense in this video."
