South African content creator Mandisi Tshingana found himself at the centre of a social media storm on 26 October 2026 after issuing a formal public apology to fellow influencer Austin Mzukwa. The apology, made under the pressure of a strict two-hour deadline, sent the internet into a frenzy almost immediately.
The tension erupted over allegations that Mandisi had attempted to interfere in Austin's romantic relationship. In a statement he shared publicly, Mandisi wrote:
"I sincerely apologise for any pain, humiliation, distress or disrespect that my actions may have caused you. I understand how deeply hurtful it must be to feel that someone has disregarded the boundaries of your relationship, and I would never wish such emotional anguish upon anyone."
He went further, acknowledging that his behaviour had damaged the trust between them and put his own reputation on the line.

What might have been a straightforward apology quickly took on a life of its own. Mandisi chose Beyoncé's track Sorry as the background audio for the post, a musical choice that left followers questioning the sincerity behind his words. Shortly after, he muddied the waters further with another post admitting, "IDK what I'm gonna do because I also love him," suggesting the situation was far from settled.
He then posted a picture quote seemingly mocking his followers for being invested in his personal life.

Austin Mzukwa rejects the apology
Austin, however, was not having any of it. He flatly rejected Mandisi's apology, insisting that Mandisi was not the person being accused of boyfriend-stealing in the first place.
According to Austin, the actual culprit is a "big influencer and celebrity," and he dismissed not only Mandisi but also Dominic Zaca and Ndoyisile Sibindi as the accused parties. He did not hold back in his response either, telling Mandisi: "You know very well that it's not you. I'm not your friend."
Austin announced he would be naming and shaming the real person at 22:00 on the same evening, with social media users glued to their screens in anticipation of the big reveal.
