After guiding his troops to a comfortable 2-0 win over Maritzburg United on Sunday in the DStv Premiership, Orlando Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer has praised Thabiso Sesane.

Also known as Pepe, the youngster played against the Team of Choice from start to finish and has attracted the German manager’s applause.

Sesane partnered with Ntsikeleo Nyauza at the heart of the defence following the absence of an experienced duo in Happy Jele and Thulani Hlatshwayo.

As he made his debut, the young defender impressed the Soweto Giants’ boss and he reacted after the clash. Zinnbauer said:

“We have in the past had good friendly games from him and he has also had minutes in the Nedbank and the international games.
"Now he was a starter, and I am very happy that he make [a good game]. You see, he is calm on the ball against a team that plays high on the press, so it is not easy to play against this team.”

Despite making his full debut in the league, the 19-year-old tasted game time in the Nedbank Cup as well as the CAF Confederation Cup, but he also featured for Pirates against Cape Town City for two minutes. Zinnbauer added:

"They had nothing to lose so they played completely high, but 'Pepe' found a good solution all the time. He also needed teammates and they helped him, so I am happy about Pepe’s performance.

"It was not easy to play against an opponent who had nothing to lose, so that is why we had new players on the field like Pepe. We have a good feeling about him and gave him the trust because we have all this information about what he can give us.

"It is always a risk, but this is what we have now. At the end of the day what was important is the result, because we have had a lot of players with a lot of games in their legs and we also had players with the game on Wednesday in their heads.
"It is not easy for players to just come back and make a good performance because you need time. We are happy about the result."

Meanwhile, Pirates will now target another win when they meet ES Setif in the continental competition at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Briefly News also reported that Pirates have bounced back to winning ways. The Soweto bigshots defeated Maritzburg 2-0 on Sunday in their DStv Premiership encounter and the victory has restored pride in the Black and White family.

Coach Zinnbauer’s troops secured the full three points courtesy of goals from the left-footed Vincent Pule to down the Team of Choice.

Some of the fans used the opportunity to take a jab at Mamelodi Sundowns for failing to reach the Ke Yona final after losing to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the semi-finals on Sunday.
