A Nigerian-American content creator has found herself in hot water after sharing how much money she spent during a day out in Nigeria.

Content creator @m2toofly, who splits her time between America and Nigeria, posted a TikTok video on 20 August 2025, breaking down her daily expenses, but viewers weren't impressed with one particular cost.

In the viral video, which has racked up over 55,000 views and 80 comments, the young woman detailed every penny she spent. Her day started with a cleaner who maintains her 6 to 7-bedroom house for around $5. She then headed to the supermarket, where she bought a pineapple drink for about $1, followed by a trip to a bread shop for custom doughnuts costing 30 cents each.

The content creator also visited Lekki Conservation Centre, paying $2 for the forest attraction where visitors can walk above the trees while monkeys climb below. After grabbing food at the centre for another $2, she ended her day at a mall. Her grand total was just $11 for the entire day.

However, what was meant to be an interesting cost comparison quickly turned into a heated discussion about fair wages. Many viewers were shocked that the domestic worker earned just $5 for cleaning such a large home, especially when compared to the $1 drink purchase.

The video showed the difference in living costs between Nigeria and Western countries. According to recent data shared on Numbeo, the average monthly salary in Nigeria is around $119, while basic meals at inexpensive restaurants cost about $2.
