A Limpopo woman has South Africans reaching for their mixing bowls after sharing a homemade Horlicks recipe that promises to do what the shop-bought version apparently can no longer: fill you up properly. Natacha Visagie, the face behind Back to Basics Homestead, posted the recipe video on Facebook on 11 August 2026.

Back to basics with a classic

Her starting point was a simple frustration: the Horlicks available in stores today does not satisfy the way it used to. She was determined to change that. Her recipe called for everyday pantry staples, including powdered milk, sugar and wheat flour, along with a few other ingredients. The process required some patience because certain steps needed to be cooled down before she could continue, but Natacha kept it straightforward and easy to follow throughout.
