An elderly South African man named Teddy was walking to church for a meal when a stranger stopped him along a dusty dirt path on 13 October 2026. That stranger was BI Phakathi, known for his acts of unexpected generosity filmed in street encounter style.
BI Phakathi approached Teddy asking for help with taxi fare, a common setup he uses to test the character of strangers. Teddy, clearly down on his luck, gently explained that he had nothing to give. He had recently been robbed, was forced to walk home from far away, and was on his way to a church that would give him something to eat.
A humble man with a heart of gold
What struck viewers was not just Teddy's circumstance, but his spirit. Even with nothing in his pocket, he was headed to church. When BI Phakathi revealed it was a test and handed over a generous sum of money, Teddy was overcome. He repeatedly urged the younger man not to give away all his money, insisting he would be left broke. He only accepted after repeated reassurance that the gift was truly his to keep.

Teddy then said he would give some of it to the church, and when BI Phakathi agreed, the two shared a deeply moving moment. Teddy, a man studying to become a pastor, prayed aloud over BI Phakathi, calling him a man with a heart of gold. Before parting ways, he said:
"You really touched my heart."
