“Filled Every Room”: Curro Mourns Executive Head of Curro Bankenveld Dirk Steenkamp After Death

Dirk Steenkamp, the Executive Head of Curro Bankenveld, has passed away, leaving behind a community in mourning. Curro Schools shared the news on 11 September 2026, describing the loss as deeply painful for staff, families and learners across multiple campuses.

Steenkamp had built a long and dedicated career within the Curro family. He previously served as Head of High School at Curro Westbrook and was also part of the team at Curro Roodeplaat before stepping into his most recent leadership role at Curro Bankenveld.

Those who knew him described a man who brought something rare to the spaces he occupied. Curro's tribute noted that he "filled every room" and that his energy stayed with people long after he left. His passion for education and for the people around him was something colleagues and families felt deeply.

A final message from Dirk

What made the tribute especially moving was the message Dirk sent while he was still in hospital. Even in those final days, he remained true to himself. He wrote:
