A South African TikToker turned public fear into pointed satire when she mocked how police responded to growing concerns about a serial killer. Yolanda Pani posted the video on 14 September 2026, and it struck a nerve almost immediately.
The clip carried the on-screen caption "POV: South Africa Police." In it, Pani delivered an exaggerated impression of a police officer brushing off public concern, saying:
"I must find a serial killer. How about you take extra precautions? You want me to find a serial killer? Haibo, take extra precautions."
The deadpan humour landed hard, because for many viewers it did not feel far from reality.

Demand better than "take extra precautions"
The clip quickly racked up over 1,100 comments, with South Africans using the space to vent frustration about gender-based violence and the government's handling of women's safety.
Several commenters drew comparisons to how other countries treat similar threats. One user pointed to the United States, writing that, as much as they disliked America, the country takes women's safety seriously when serial killers are involved. That contrast clearly resonated with others in the thread.
